Scholarships


CAICH Master of Public Health and PhD Scholarships

We have scholarship opportunities available for American Indian students interested in pursuing a Master of Public Health degree or PhD from the University of Kansas Medical Center. These scholarships are for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The CAICH scholarship is for students who are interested in addressing health disparities affecting the American Indian community. For MPH students, the scholarship covers tuition and fees and provides a graduate research assistantship, professional development (travel and registration to attend conferences), and use of a computer for the duration of the scholarship. For PhD students, the scholarship covers tuition and fees only.

To apply, the student must also complete the application for the KU Medical Center MPH/PhD program. Information for these programs can be found at the KU Medical Center MPH website. or the Graduate Studies Program

Requirements for CAICH Scholarships:

  • Must be American Indian/Alaska Native (Note: We DO NOT require a CDIB)
  • Meet all entrance requirements for the KUMC-MPH or PhD program and be accepted into program
  • For PhD students, area of study must support CAICH’s vision of addressing health disparities affecting the American Indian community. Contact Jason Hale at jhale@kumc.edu to verify that your program qualifies.
  • Submit application materials for the CAICH scholarship, including:
    • Cover letter
    • Resume or cv
    • Two letters of recommendation, either faculty or professional. These can be the same as the letters used for the MPH/PhD application
    • One set of official transcripts (both undergraduate and graduate, if applicable)
    • 500 word minimum essay about a heath disparity suffered by the American Indian population and what you would like to do to address it (please use Times New Roman 12 point font and double space)
