Healthy Homes

GreeNation

GreeNation was a healthy homes project under the Environmental Health Sub-core within the Center for American Indian Community Health (CAICH) at the University of Kansas Medical Center. The study has concluded, and is in the data-analysis phase of research.

American Indians have the highest rate of severe physical housing problems in the United States. GreeNation was developed with the specific aim of decreasing A.I. housing disparities. While conducting this study, we offered environmental health and safety education sessions for community members, healthcare professionals, and facilities workers. These sessions focused on indoor environmental health and hazard safety. Home assessments were completed for American Indians who had concerns about the health of their home and its impact on their well-being.

Healthy Homes Assessments

Level 1 Assessments

For homes of community members who have sporadic asthma or occasional health issues. We performed a detailed visual evaluation of the environmental conditions of the home and focused on areas of concern both inside and outside.

Level 2 Assessments

For homes of community members with chronic asthma and/or health issues. These were more in-depth than Level 1. We used the most up-to-date testing equipment to look for potential health hazards.

All families received a report on their home and were provided with education on healthy homes.

Results
